Betsy Brill

Betsy is an internationally recognized expert in philanthropy. She co-founded Strategic Philanthropy, Ltd., in 2000 with Susan Winer and serves as the company’s President. Betsy brings to each client engagement the experience garnered over close to 30 years of working with families around their charitable giving and managing and consulting to non-profits.

Betsy has an MBA in International Business from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, a deep understanding of the global philanthropic landscape with particular emphasis on advancing human and civil rights, environmental sustainability, diversity and gender.

A prolific writer and speaker; Betsy has authored pieces for Alliance Magazine, STEP Journal (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners), Private Wealth and Financial Advisor magazines among others. She is regularly quoted in the Chicago Tribune, Chronicle of Philanthropy, Crain’s, New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal and has been a featured speaker at such venues as: STEP Global Congress, the Chicago Estate Planning Council and Exponent Philanthropy. In addition, she has been a regular speaker at Financial Advisor Magazine’s Invest in Women Conference as well as numerous family office forums. She and Susan Winer co-authored a chapter in the new CAF America publication: Cross-Border Giving: a Legal and Practical Guide.

Betsy represents the firm at STEP (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) and has served as the co-chair and only U.S. member on STEP’s Philanthropy Advisors Committee. She also serves as a Trustee at Adler University and is Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee. In addition to her MBA, Betsy has a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Roosevelt University.
