John LaFleur joined Strategic Philanthropy, Ltd. in the fall of 2015 as a Director of the firm and is responsible for both direct client services and outreach to the advisor community. John brings deep experience in both the non-profit and for profit sectors. He has worked on a wide array of philanthropic initiatives with a particular emphasis on education, homelessness, and the arts.
His background includes serving as executive director of one of Bostonâ€™s largest private family foundations where he implemented a start-up grantmaking process and launched a number of successful large-scale program related investments and donor collaborations. He assisted an elderly private donor in transitioning her Downtown Boston commercial property to a private foundation which provides subsidized non-profit office space. He has been president of a boutique manufacturing company in the toy and gift industry and was engaged as a business development consultant for a private firm that provides web store services to museums, historical societies, and municipalities, including the Chicago Transit Authority.Â
John has a B.S. in Accounting from Bentley University and has served as President of the Edgar Allan Poe Foundation of Boston, founding director of the Edward Gorey House and board member of Grub Street Writerâ€™s Group. He is currently on the board of Side Street Studio Arts, participates in the Arts & Business Council of Chicago as a volunteer consultant and is also the author of several illustrated storybooks.
