Joan serves as an Advisor on the Strategic Philanthropy, Ltd. team. Her career has been grounded in her passion for social justice and equity and she brings to the firm deep expertise in gender analysis, economic development, refugee and immigrant rights, and program design and evaluation.
Joan has worked on many sides of the non-profit sector â€“ in grant making for The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation to grant writing for CARE International and the Womenâ€™s Global Education Project. For over a decade, she has taught for Northwestern Universityâ€™s Gender Studies program on the politics of gender in the international arena.
Joan has a BA in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Minnesota, and a MA in International Affairs from George Washington University. She serves on the Board of Directors for Womenâ€™s Global Education Project, supporting their work on girlsâ€™ education in Africa, and has also served on the advisory board for Childrenâ€™s Place International, advising their work in the health field in Haiti and Africa.
