Betsy is an internationally recognized expert in philanthropy. She co-founded Strategic Philanthropy, Ltd., in 2000 with Susan Winer and serves as the companyâ€™s President. Betsy brings to each client engagement the experience garnered over close to 30 years of working with families around their charitable giving and managing and consulting to non-profits.
With an MBA in International Business from The Thunderbird School of Global Management, and significant client work outside the U.S., Betsy brings a deep understanding of the global philanthropic landscape and a particular interest in advancing human and civil rights, and environmental sustainability to every client engagement.Â
Betsy is a prolific writer and speaker; she has authored pieces for theÂ Journal of Practical Estate Planning, Alliance Magazine,Â STEP JournalÂ (Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners), among others. She is regularly quoted in the Chicago Tribune, Chronicle of Philanthropy, Crainâ€™s, New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal. Betsy has been a featured speaker at such venues as: The Chicago Estate Planning Council, Association of Small Foundations (Now Exponent Philanthropy), the Council on Foundationsâ€”Family Philanthropy Conference, Greater North Shore Estate and Financial Planning Council, Pacific Northwest Global Donors Conference, The William Blair & Company Family Wealth Conference, and the Southeast Family Office Forum.Â She has participated in webinars on philanthropy for CELESQ, National Center for Family Philanthropy, Family Office Metrics and Fidelity Charitable.
Betsy is also one of a select group of professionals designated as a National Center for Family Philanthropy Trained Consultant and a member of numerous industry organizations including: National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers, Advisors in Philanthropy and the Council on Foundations Philanthropic Advisor Network. She is a registered Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) through the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and the only U.S. member on STEPâ€™s Philanthropy Committee and serves as a Trustee at Adler University. In addition to her MBA, Betsy has a Certificate in Non-Profit Management from Roosevelt University.
